    wondering . . .
Just wondering when Socialist Lampoon's Presidential Vacation will end.

Please tell me it will be over soon.  We're running out of allies to offend, terrorists to hug, and unwarranted apologies to offer.

    Four Years and Out
Just to keep track: the official countdown until noon Eastern time Sunday, January 20, 2013, when (take your pick: Bobby Jindal, Mike Huckabee, or Sarah Palin) will take the oath of office as our 45th President.

    I'm feeling better already.

    At the end of history
In just a few hours, America as we have known it will pass into history.  Our change in government will be comparable to Russia's change from Alexander Kerensky to V.I. Lenin in 1917, trading personal freedom for control by Big Brother and trading capitalism for Marxism.

God gave us a land filled with unimaginable beauty and riches.
We forgot the Giver, and worshiped the creation, rather than the Creator.

    God gave us children.
We called them "fetuses," murdered them, and named it "choice."

    God gave us wealth.
We squandered it, became enslaved by debt, and are poor.

    God gave us liberty.
We treated it with indifference, chose government as our "god," and became prisoners.

    God gave us families.
We undermined them, redefined them, and no longer know their foundational value.

    God gave us power.
We arrogantly thought it derived from ourselves, became proud, and used it for evil.

    God gave us faith.
We called it intolerant, mocked it, and banished it from the public square.

    We have wasted it.
    All.

    Democrat Duma Today
In a Sunday session, the Democrat Duma passed its first major piece of legislation today. Which major crisis did it address?
    • Unemployment
    • Banking
    • Housing
    • Infrastructure
    • The Gaza conflict
    • Russian-EU gas pipeline disruption
Try "none of the above." Harry Reid's Duma removed two million acres of oil, gas, and coal from development, designating the land as "wilderness." Yep, THAT will help build energy independence, respect the sovereignty of Western states, create jobs, and set the tone for "change we can believe in."

    And it's just beginning.

    Marxobamanomics, Chapter 1
Comrade Obama announced the first phase of his "economic recovery plan."

It isn't bold. It isn't new. It isn't "change." It's just LBJ's not-so-Great Society blended with superficial geek-speak. Here are the elements of the Great Leader's first five-year plan:

ENERGY: “[W]e will launch a massive effort to make public buildings more energy-efficient. Our government now pays the highest energy bill in the world. We need to change that. We need to upgrade our federal buildings by replacing old heating systems and installing efficient light bulbs. That won’t just save you, the American taxpayer, billions of dollars each year. It will put people back to work.”

Yep, "change we can believe in" evidently means "change a light bulb." That's it, folks. If the Great Leader really wanted to "put people back to work," how about punching holes in Alaska and offshore, building refineries, building nuclear power plants, developing oil shale and coal gasification technology, and enhancing production of natural gas, coal, geothermal, solar, wind, hydroelectric, and tidal power? How about making the United States 100% energy self-sufficient and telling the terrorists to drink their oil?

ROADS AND BRIDGES: “[W]e will create millions of jobs by making the single largest new investment in our national infrastructure since the creation of the federal highway system in the 1950s. We’ll invest your precious tax dollars in new and smarter ways, and we’ll set a simple rule – use it or lose it. If a state doesn’t act quickly to invest in roads and bridges in their communities, they’ll lose the money.”

Given the history of union-controlled highway projects under Democrat control, is it too bold to suggest that we will see Boston's "Big Dig" as the model? Expect unfunded or underfunded mandates to states (likely contingent on states repealing right to work laws and adopting card check unionization), union bidding preferences, politically selected project priorities, bribery, corruption, shoddy work, construction delays, cost overruns, and the "need" for vast amounts of additional funding to "finish" the jobs. In short, expect a large transfer of wealth to unions, who then can launder the money for contributions back to Democrats. Oh, and expect the new roads to be toll roads, so that we can be taxed again for what we already bought once.

SCHOOLS: “[M]y economic recovery plan will launch the most sweeping effort to modernize and upgrade school buildings that this country has ever seen. We will repair broken schools, make them energy-efficient, and put new computers in our classrooms. Because to help our children compete in a 21st century economy, we need to send them to 21st century schools.”

By all means we should improve the facilities and equipment in schools, while embracing incompetent tenured union teachers and inadequate politically-motivated curricula.1 By all means we should eliminate school accountability, converting NCLB into the Every Child Left Behind Act. By all means, we should oppose school competition, oppose vouchers, make it more difficult for parents to establish charter schools. That is certainly "change."

BROADBAND: “As we renew our schools and highways, we’ll also renew our information superhighway. It is unacceptable that the United States ranks 15th in the world in broadband adoption. Here, in the country that invented the Internet, every child should have the chance to get online, and they’ll get that chance when I’m president – because that’s how we’ll strengthen America’s competitiveness in the world.”

Comrade Obama would do better to insist that every child can read and write. The October 2003 University of Michigan Science Blog noted that teens searching the Internet for health information frequently misspell search terms. We can only hope that the Great Leader will set aside his crackberry long enough to explain how encouraging teens to put away books and spend more time on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, or BlogTV will enhance America's competitiveness in the world.

ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS: “In addition to connecting our libraries and schools to the Internet, we must also ensure that our hospitals are connected to each other through the Internet. That is why the economic recovery plan I’m proposing will help modernize our health care system – and that won’t just save jobs, it will save lives. We will make sure that every doctor’s office and hospital in this country is using cutting edge technology and electronic medical records so that we can cut red tape, prevent medical mistakes, and help save billions of dollars each year.”

Comrade Obama is half a decade behind the medical community. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) mandated electronic medical record conversion. HIPAA imposed a deadline of October 16, 2003 for compliance with the electronic transaction and code sets provision. Electronic medical records are already becoming the routine. By the way, HIPAA was enacted by a Republican Congress.

1 I am not opposed to repairing roads or school buildings. I oppose the obamalusory belief that installing computers in shiny new buildings is sufficient to make America competitive in the world. The problems with the education system are far deeper than bricks and mortar. Union protectionism is far more responsible for decades of educational ineptitude than creaky, inadequate buildings.

    Introduction and welcome

I am Christian, moral conservative, and Republican, in that order.  This journal will express my thoughts and beliefs on a wide variety of subjects.  I welcome all who choose to read and interact with civil discussions of issues of our day.

Here are a few simple ground rules.  Please take a moment to read them.  I respectfully request that they be followed.

    1.  Reasonable people can disagree without being disagreeable.

    2.  Civil discourse requires reflection before response.

    3.  Name-calling, flaming, profanity, and ad hominem attacks undermine civilized discourse.  Let's refrain from these.

Comments are restricted to other LJ users.  There is nothing sinister in this.  I simply want to get to know you better as we explore the issues of our day.  Please feel free to add this journal to your friends list.  If you wish to introduce yourself, please feel free to do so.
